Universal Tour Review: Bath
I went to the gig expecting something massive, and wasn’t disappointed! I arrived with my girlfriend’s youth group and stood around outside the forum for 10 minutes before the doors were opened and we all went it! I had seen photos of the stage; however they didn’t really show how large the place actually was! We went inside, putting our bags away on chairs at the back and waited patiently at the front on the stage for Titus, one of the support bands to come on stage.
Titus came to stage and after a seemingly long time started to play! The crowd had been told no moshing, however that when straight out of the window with the group in the centre, as Titus led the crowd with a set of lively songs! After a short 2 minute break while the stage was rearranged LZ7 came on. I hadn’t heard any of their music before, however my overall impression of them was of another Tribe, TheBandWithNoName style band. They are doing the same sort of work as TBWNN as well as working within schools.
Another short 5 minute break heralded the coming of yFriday. The set started off with an introduction video with the Universal logo, like the ones you see in films! Then que the Space Odyssey music with a zoom in from space to the earth to morph into the globe on the front of the Universal cover. Suddenly, the lights come up as the band go straight into Universal, I hadn’t even noticed they had come on stage!
Universal headed straight off into one of the Revolution classics; Someone I Can Live For, which was brilliant because most of the crowd new the words here and were singing and jumping along! The next track was Wonderful (excuse the pun) from Universal and then back to two more Revolution tracks; Shine2 & Start of the Summer, a track written by Ken about his conversion.
Start of the Summer led in to a spontaneous sections with the words ‘Send your rain down God.’ What happened next surprised me; Closer, a RainMaker track was played, however it fitted perfectly with the mood that had been created with the spontaneous track.
Back to Universal came, in my opinion, one of the best tracks on the album; Gravity also with another great visual and then into Closer.
The ‘B Section’ of the gig was something amazing! Each member of the band had a drum each (other than Dez, who had a few!) A short drum solo led into Revolution with the old school video!
How Can We Dance, a track that I had missed from Universal, returned to the yFriday play list, with a slightly new arrangement from when I remember hearing is last time at Grassrootz ’05! However it was great to have it back in set!
Everlasting God, the song inspired from Isaiah 40, was next up in the Universal Tour, followed by a the Isaiah verse from Ken’s ‘Survival Guide.’ One Hope followed on, and as the band left the stage the crowd had one hope that the band would come back on for one more track!
Yfriday saved the day as they came back on to give one last track; Saved the Day, my jokes are getting worse! The band left the stage for good and the house lights went back up to concluded an amazing gig!
