NE1

What is NE1?

Our passion is to mobilise Christian young people to serve local churches, as they in turn engage in social action and outreach projects right across the North East of England.

During a weeklong camp (23rd - 29th July 2006), teams of young people from across the UK and overseas will be putting their faith into action by becoming involved in a variety of community based Church run projects.

The aim of NE1 is to have around 3,000 young people, recruited from the North East and beyond, camping together for a week at Herrington Country Park (near Penshaw Monument). NE1 is based on the same ideas as Message 2000, Soul in the city, and Merseyfest, so if you went to any of those events why not head over to the North East and go to NE1?

Following preparation sessions in the mornings, the young people will travel out in teams to serve communities and inner city locations with social action projects. The projects, to be initiated and run by local churches, will vary to include cleaning up parks and graffiti, decorating and gardening to running sports workshops and children’s holiday clubs.

What has this got to do with yFriday?

Well since Ken is one of the directors of NE1 he has played an important part in the planning of the event. This therefore means YFriday are going to be involved in large parts of the event.

YFriday will be leading worship in the Big Top every morning and playing gigs in the evenings to impact young people. So if you like YFriday and you want to help make a difference in the world go to the NE1 website and sign up!

As well as YFriday there are loads of other great bands joining them at NE1. One Hundred Hours, Andy Hunter, LZ7, Blush UK, Four Kornerz, Titus, Greenjade, thebandwithnoname and loads more will all be there to help spread the word of God. Along with the bands, the strongest line up of youth focussed Evangelists has also been put together for a mission in the UK.
